Melbourn Village College – Inspiring Minds

As the students return to Melbourn Village College and the new Year 7s begin to find their feet, helped by their Year 11 prefects, they can have confidence in our continued success.

GCSE results have continued to improve this year as we built on last year’s record breaking results. 69% of students achieved the equivalent of 5 or more GCSEs at A*-C including English and Maths, with 30% of all grades being A* or A. Triple Science results were also very strong, justifying the college’s decision to offer this opportunity to over half the students in each year; A*-C rates were over 85% in each case and in Biology over two thirds of students taking the course achieved an A* or A, representing 35% of the whole year group.

Last term, we decided to change our college motto to make it more relevant to our students and to celebrate our forthcoming conversion to Academy Status. Naturally, students were fully involved in the process, suggesting ideas and voting on their favourite. The final choice, ‘Inspiring Minds’, will be appearing on letterheads in the near future and formed part of an art project run over the Summer in conjunction with Melbourn Youth Club and a local professional artist. Students created a design for a wet weather space at the college, came in during the holiday to realise it and then appeared on BBC radio to discuss the work and the positive impact they feel it has had.
