The MVC Curriculum

The MVC curriculum is designed to give students the opportunity to develop the skills, knowledge and confidence needed to be successful adults.

The year 7 curriculum offers a broad range of academic and practical subjects. Alongside this students will take part in learning to learn (L2L). This is a program designed to help students think about and develop wider skills such as the roles needed within a successful team.

In year 8 most students begin studying German alongside French from year 7. In a small number of cases it is felt better for students to us this time to study a wider program designed to further boost their literacy and provide a taste of a wider set of languages.

The year 9 curriculum follows the same pattern as that students experience in year 8. The one major change is that in ICT students will follow the BTEC ICT Extended Certificate for ICT Users. This course awards the equivalent of 2 GCSE grades at A*-C.

The KS4 curriculum is based around an examined core of English Language, English Literature, Mathematics and Science. All students take part in 2 hours of PE lessons and a PSHE (Personal Social and Health Education) lesson. In addition to this students take 4 options. At MVC we do not believe in forcing students to take any particular subject but believe that personalised advice and guidance will help them choose the most appropriate path.
