GERMAN
Key Stage 3
Year 8 German
Students also have the opportunity to learn German, starting their study of the language through listening, speaking, reading and writing the language. All students follow the course book ‘Echo Express 1’, studying topics including:
Self
Family
School
Free-time
Food and drink
We may decide in consultation with parents that a second foreign language will not be taken in Year 8 and will provide an alternative programme, which focuses on developing literacy skills in English during a student's German lesson time.

Year 9 German
In Year 9 students build on their listening, speaking, reading and writing skills in German. The emphasis throughout is on oral communication underpinned by a clear grammatical progression.
Language skills are tested at the end of each term and students again chart their progress in skill areas using their progress grids.
We advise that students purchase a German-English dictionary and recommend the Collins ‘Easy Learning Dictionary Plus Grammar’ which we use in lessons.
