Competition Squad

The MVC Competition Squad is a collection of the very best dancers within the whole of Melbourn Village College.

In years 8 – 11 Comp Squad is joined by audition. After the audition 7 of the best dancers are invited to join from year 8 and 7 from year 9 and then 10 dancers are invited from year 10 and 10 from year 11. A first reserve is also chosen from each year group in case a member of Comp Squad has to leave. 6 students from year 7 are chosen after the first term based on their class work and those that display a natural talent for, and commitment to, dance; this is instead of an audition as it is felt that asking students so young and new to the school to audition would be unfair.

Comp Squad

In total Comp Squad has 40 members across the year groups and they all train, rehearse and work together. Some competitions involve whole group pieces where as others may require the squad being split into a Junior and a Senior team or a competition may require just one year group or just the male members. Whatever the competition Comp Squad members all support and encourage each other. Comp Squad also play a big part in helping and supporting PAD Co when they are involved in the competitions and shows.

Since its creation in September 2009 Comp Squad has performed at many events and has won all but one competition that it has entered, some of the winning titles include:

British Red Cross Dance Competition – Regional Heat Winner 2010

British Red Cross Dance Competition – National Winners 2010

Energise Dance – Winner 2010

Grafton Style Challenge – Best Choreography 2011

Grafton Style Challenge – Overall Winner 2011
