The PE Department at Melbourn Village College is very successful.  We have excellent facilities which include a gymnasium, multi-use sports hall, flood-lit multi games Astroturf, swimming pool and extensive playing fields. Facilities are enhanced by our partnership with Melbourn Sports Centre allowing students the use of their well-equipped Fitness Suite.

 

The department strives to provide students with team and individual sporting opportunities. Our sports teams are very successful in all competitive sporting events.

 

As well as the specified curriculum hours the department also offers extra-curricular clubs in Rugby, Football, Netball, Hockey, Badminton, Tennis, Cricket, Trampolining, Squash, Golf, Aerobics, Boxercise, Triathlon and Table Tennis.

 

PE is taught to all pupils in KS3 and KS4 for 2 hours per week with the option of a further 2 hours for those opting for the GCSE or BTEC PE course.

HOUSE OLYMPICS

In the lead up to next summer's London Olympics we are running House Competitions in all the Olympic Sports that can be done in school. Every child will enter in at least 2 events and compete for the medals. At the end of the year once all the events have taken place there will be an overall House winner and they will be awarded a trophy. So far the events competed in are triathlon, hockey, football, mixed doubles badminton and table tennis. Still to go are, rowing, swimming, BMX racing, basketball, handball, gymnastics, track & field athletics, archery, volleyball, trampolining and water polo.
