KS4 Options
The aim of the Curriculum at MVC is to allow them to enjoy learning, reach their potential and help them on their way to realising their ambitions. The choices process that takes place during year 9 is a key part of this since it allows students to personalise their curriculum. This has been a successful part of MVC’s curriculum and we are certain that, with the correct advice allied to their hard work, MVC students will achieve well once again.
Once again this year the process is split into two distinct parts.
Part I – Designing the option blocks
For the last few years we have stopped defining the option blocks before the process starts. Instead we ask students what subjects they would like us to run and the making the best possible blocks for the year group as a whole. To guide you in this please see the options booklet (available below).
Part II - Options
The options process begins once the blocks have been made. There will be 4 option blocks and you will be asked to choose one subject and one reserve from each block. The options form is available here

Frequently Asked Questions:
In this section we will record questions asked by parents and children about the process:
Q: Is it possible to do BTEC Construction in a single option block?
A: Possibly. Following student request it is being included in the option form. However be aware this will lead to a reduction in the number of practical options taken. Whether it runs will depend upon student preferences.
Q: Given I only need 2 of the 3 separate sciences for the EBacc can I take just 2?
A: No if you follow the separate science route you would take all three of Chemistry, Biology and Physics. However the EBacc would only require a C or more in two of them. Past performance by students suited to following this route would suggest you would get at least a C in all three subjects.
